So Much Joy...and maybe a few butterflies ;)

What a JOY to see many of our children, eyes sparkling with anticipation, visiting their classrooms at the ice cream social on Thursday evening. Thank you to our parent team for providing the ice cream and the warm welcome to our families. Teachers have been working for weeks to prepare classrooms, dive further into their curricula, and spend time in prayer for each child who will be in their care for the upcoming school year. Their hearts, minds and classrooms are ready. Our prayer is that the transition would be natural and comfortable for your child, that understanding of who God created your child to be would be discovered and celebrated and that your child will flourish at South Side this year. Thank you for partnering with us!

Yellow Vest Volunteers
We're still looking for a fun way to celebrate your inner-child? We're still looking for a few volunteers to be a safety presence on our playground during the lunch hour recess. If you are available to commit, even one day per month, we'd love to have you on board. The time commitment is from 11:45-12:30 and the pay is $10 for the 45 minutes. Please email Miska at mrynsburger@hollandchristian.org with questions or to express your interest. Thank you!

Health Appraisal Forms
A new Michigan mandate states that children must have a health appraisal form in order to be allowed in school. This is intended for the overall safety and wellness of the school community. We are working hard to be in compliance with this mandate, but do need your help. If your child attended South Side last year, you may carry on with your summer. If you are new to South Side or if your child has had a recent well-child visit, please take note of this form. Your pediatrician's office has the forms (as do we if you'd like) and is very willing to complete the form for your child. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you need clarification or more information. We'd be thrilled to help you. We want to have all of our children in compliance so that their education and routine are not interrupted at school. Thank you for your assistance on this important matter.

Drop-Off and Pick-Up
As a South Side community, we treasure the partnership established between home and school. Every child who enters our doors at South Side is loved and deeply valued. Among our top priorities in caring for and educating your child is keeping him or her safe while under our care. To that end, we ask that you adhere to the following traffic policies for Drop-Off and Pick-Up in the front circle drive. We appreciate your cooperation and doing your part to keep our children entering and exiting school safely.
Drop-Off
  • If you are parking and exiting your vehicle with your children to enter school, please park in the gravel lot to the west of the sidewalk.
  • In the event that lot is full, please use the LEFT lane of the circle drive for parking your vehicle. Please exit your car with your child and escort him or her across the moving lane of traffic, which is on the right.
  • The right lane of traffic will be utilized for dropping off your child if he or she is exiting independently and you are intending to then drive forward and exit the grounds. When  possible, please instruct your child to exit your vehicle on the right so he/she safely walks on the curb rather than the circle drive.
  • The left lane will be considered our overflow temporary parking spaces. The right lane will be for curb-side drop off and moving traffic.
Pick-Up
  • Please register your child in the office with Mrs. Meiste. She will give you a small paper with your child’s assigned Pick-Up carpool number. This should be placed on the right side of your car’s dashboard when you enter carpool. A number is only necessary for Pick-Up, not Drop-Off.
  • When entering the circle drive, please move into the right lane if open and pull forward as far as possible. Please remain in your vehicle.
  • Your child will be held safely in school with a teacher until his/her name is called by a teacher  allowing him/her to walk to your vehicle. The right lane of vehicles will load with children first and be dismissed.
  • Please remain in park until given the “all clear” wave from a teacher that all students have loaded into their vehicles in the right lane and the right lane of traffic may exit the grounds safely.
  • Students loading in the second lane will only be released by the teacher when all right-lane cars have exited and all incoming traffic is halted.
  • Left lane traffic may exit the circle drive when the child is safely buckled in. No need to wait for the “all clear” wave.
We appreciate your patience and support as we help each other navigate the safety policies of Drop-Off and Pick-Up. Please don’t hesitate to ask questions of Mrs. Meiste or Mrs. Rynsburger. We will be happy to help!
Walk-A-thon
We are getting excited once again for our annual Walk A Thon and are looking for your help in making this year's event a huge success. Donors are needed to put on the actual fundraiser and that is where you come in. If you as a family or business would like to give monetarily, please email Kylie Leeuw at kyleeuw@gmail.com and she would be happy to help you. Your support is greatly appreciated!!
