Springtime!

This post will be our last blog update until April 17, after spring vacation. I pray that each of you will be able to come apart and rest a while. We are all eager to witness the whole of creation burst forth and explode with the sights, sounds and smells of springtime (not unlike our precious littles and their springtime sights, sounds and...yes, smells ;) ) May God bless you each with safety and rest, whether you travel near or far over the next week or two.

Our Bus 9 students get to school bright and early. They are beginning an early morning chess club! If you have a complete chess set at home that is no longer in use, we have some eager chess teachers depicted here ready to teach their fellow South Siders the finer points of the game of chess. Thank you!

Lunch Accounts
Would you please take a moment to review your lunch account balances? There are some accounts showing a negative balance.  The kitchen would like to bring all accounts into good standing by April 13, 2015.  Payments may be made at one school for your children, no need to write separate checks for each student, simply indicate the amount to be deposited per child.    You may also make online payments anytime to www.sendmoneytoschool.com, note convenience fees do apply. Thank you for your cooperation.

The Annual Swingin’ the Night Away is Saturday, March 28, 6:45-9:30 p.m. in the HCHS Cafeteria.  Free dance instructions from 6:45-7:30 p.m. and 7:30-9:30 p.m. will be dancing, vocal soloists and HC Jazz Bands.  Enjoy desserts and beverages.  Tickets are $5 at the door. All ages are invited to join the fun!

Reading Carnival!
Next week Wednesday,  April 1st, is coming.  We are excited to hold the all-school reading carnival to wrap up reading month and send us off on Spring Break. We thank all of you that are able to volunteer in helping.  Along with enjoying Spring Break remember to "READ A THING OR TWO!"

March is Reading Month!
Every March we celebrate reading and encourage everyone to take some extra time to read. The following reading incentive activities are provided through the South Side Library and teaching staff.

I SPY A GOOD BOOK!: We are highlighting books that promote visual literacy! What good book did you spy? Be sure to recommend good books to other readers!

Free WhiteCaps Tickets:
Students can earn WhiteCaps tickets with their March reading minutes. New this year: record reading minutes on the WhiteCaps calendar. The minutes for classroom reading goals and the WhiteCaps calendar are the same minutes, recorded in two different places. If they turn in the completed WhiteCaps calendar, students will be given vouchers that can be redeemed for two free WhiteCaps tickets. Be sure to have a parent’s initials in each space. The WhiteCaps office requires the calendar AND the voucher for ordering free tickets. See WhiteCaps letter for more information.
